The city of London Ontario was founded in 1792 by John Graves Simcoe, who named it after London, England. This name choice was because Niagara-on-the-Lake, the provincial capital at that time, was right on the American frontier and he wanted his new city more like his London (as in London, the capital of England) -- deeper into Canada to become the province's new capital. This dream of Simcoe’s did not come true, yet your dreams might as you look for a London Ontario home for sale in one of the many attractive neighbourhoods in this diverse and ever expanding city. Archaeological investigations in the region indicate that aboriginal people have resided in the area for at least the past 10,000 years, and many descendants of these original London residents still live in the region. Clearly, they must know something!
